In a recent event “Connected Routes – The Future of Transport and Trade in Northern Europe” business leaders and industry experts shared a common view: strengthening Latvia’s competitiveness requires closer integration between different modes of transport, smart investment decisions, and a strong focus on creating higher-value economic opportunities. Connectivity remains one of the key drivers of growth, influencing investment attraction, export development, mobility, and the country’s overall competitiveness.

Experts noted that the national airline airBaltic and Riga Airport (RIX) are key pillars of Latvia’s international connectivity. Their impact extends far beyond the transport sector, contributing to investment attraction, business development, tourism growth, and job creation.

The event was organized by the Irish Latvian Chamber of Commerce (ILCC) in cooperation with the British Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, the Finnish Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, and the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, with support from DHL Express Latvia.

Representatives of DHL Express Latvia emphasized that the transport and logistics sector is increasingly being shaped by geopolitical developments, digitalization, and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence.

Experts agreed that businesses must be able to adapt quickly to change, as technology and global supply chains are evolving at a much faster pace than ever before. At the same time, the significant contribution of the logistics sector to Latvia’s economy was highlighted, with the industry accounting for approximately 6.5% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Thank you to all participants for the insightful discussions and valuable perspectives on Latvia’s future development. 🚆✈️🚢
