Business Lunch with the Director General of the State Revenue Service

Many thanks to Baiba Šmite-Roķe for dedicating her time to the joint dialogue of the four chambers of commerce — the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, the Irish Latvian Chamber of Commerce, the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Latvia (SCCL), and BDO Latvia.

Expressing our appreciation to the State Revenue Service (VID) for improvements in its day-to-day work with taxpayers and businesses, we would like to highlight several achievements mentioned by the Director General. During her tenure, the number of VID employees has been reduced by 600 — a direction that should be continued.

Secondly, an important step is the introduction of artificial intelligence in VID functions. VID receives more than 2,000 submissions per day, which is a very large volume, and nowadays efficient processing without AI tools is not possible.

We encourage VID to continue implementing digital solutions and thank them for maintaining regular dialogue and cooperation with the business community.

Representatives of companies raised questions regarding tax regimes, the payment structure for electric vehicle charging, as well as challenges they face in the tax payment process.
